Early Music Ensemble

The Kuala Lumpur-based Soloist Ensemble dedicates itself to the performance and promotion of a diverse range of choral, opera, and chamber music, with a particular focus on the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The ensemble’s musical direction emphasizes the individual strengths of its soloists, allowing each voice to shine distinctly within the rich, velvety ensemble sound, often performing without a conductor.

The ensemble’s performances are versatile, with concert programs that vary in instrumentation and repertoire. Depending on the program, singers may be accompanied by a continuo, solo instruments, or a chamber ensemble featuring period instruments such as the Renaissance lute, spinet, viola da gamba, Baroque flute, recorder, and Baroque violin. The ensemble is also keen to collaborate with owners of antique instruments.

With a focus on creating engaging and accessible programs for audiences, the ensemble often includes commentary between concert segments to provide context and enhance the listening experience. While specializing in early music, the ensemble also explores a cappella pieces from other major eras, including Classical, Romantic, 20th Century, and Contemporary, tailoring their repertoire to fit the concert narrative.

Currently, the KL Madrigal Singers & Players are responsible to deliver the R&B Gems and Musica Sacra and Opera Galore concert series for VerSeS.
